Importing Text and EPUB Resources

Overview

Two kinds of import operations are available in Steelkilt:

  • Importing text using Text Editor
  • Importing Resources using Code Editor

Importing Text

When Text Editor is open, you can import text by:

  • Tapping the plus (➕) button at the top-right corner of Project Navigator
  • Choosing Import Files… from the menu
  • A File Open dialog will appear. Only text files will be selectable. Choose one or more text files to begin the import.

Note

Importing a large amount of text can take some time due to Markdown scanning and processing

Importing Resources

When Code Editor is open, you can import Resources by:

  • Using Code Navigator to select a descendent folder of the Package item
  • Tapping the plus (➕) at the top-right corner of Code Navigator
  • Choosing Import Files… from the menu
  • A File Open dialog will appear. You will be able to select all file types and folders. Choose one or more files or folders to begin the import.

Important Note

Steelkilt cannot automatically download folder contents from the cloud while undertaking an import. When attempting to import entire folders, please ensure that you use the File app on your iPhone or iPad to download all the necessary files before starting the import.

Code Editor functionality is dependent on the Resource’s type (determined by the file’s content and extension):

  • Text-based Resources can be edited
  • Images can be viewed
  • All other Resource types can be included in your EPUB, but cannot be edited or viewed by Steelkilt

Warning

Do not import unnecessary data. Doing so will:

  • Reduce EPUB Generator and EPUB Error Scanner performance
  • Increase the size of your Steelkilt Project, making synchronization between your devices more time consuming.
